This was written to be an emotionally brutal reading experience, hoping to bring ppl to tears - ppl need to feel the emotional burden of what was (& still is) done to children to change their minds &/or become [more/] radicalized.
I have two teens in a gov system in NNJ. I was at board meetings and writing to many people hammering them with data about the uselessness of masking and the fact that it represented systematic child abuse. in NJ the mask issue was purely a political wedge issue for the teachers unions to use to exert more power over the governor and legislature. They didnt care if the masks worked or not or hurt kids, it was just something ... anything they could use to accumulate more power to themselves. The psychology of totalitarianism requires a scapegoat. So instead of cutting the throats of virgins girls and casting them into a volcano we masked our kids instead. It was utterly disgusting. If it happens again I will withdraw my kids from the school system
I particularly hate people saying "hey! kids are resilient (puag)! you see? they are doing good, they smile". Kids can look good while being abused by her uncle every night.

The medical officer of health for my region sent my wife and I a letter via my son's elementary school. We were asked to isolate him in his room for two weeks and physically distance ourselves from him because one of his classmates had a 'positive' result from a SARs-CoV-2 RT-PCR test. Parents of all the kids in the class, plus those who shared the bus were asked to do this. Schooling for all of them was moved online. I couldn't believe how many families happily complied. The affected child experienced mild cold-like symptoms for a few days and was fine. None of the other children got sick. This was gone to ~30 perfectly health children. The medical officer called this 'isolated quarantine'. My older son asked why we were being requested to put his younger brother into solitary confinement. My first reaction was to try to explain the difference. Then I realized that I couldn't really discern much of a difference. In fact, where I live, criminals cannot be legally placed into solitary confinement for more than 12 hours because it is deemed too inhumane. We did not comply. I contacted our local child welfare office to report that we were being asked to abuse our child. Initially, they were extremely concerned and wanted a full report so they could investigate. As soon as they heard that it was related to a COVID-19 lockdown protocol, they would have nothing to do with it. I felt that the only way that I could try to help other kids was to encourage other parents by going public:
We now have children in my son's school who wear masks even though they are no longer required and their parents are actually trying to get them to stop wearing them; they have become a sort of 'security blanket' for them. How can we dare to assume that the Mason story doesn't reflect what children go through (at least some of them!) when they are forced to mask. What a crime that assumption is. Thank you for continuing to stand up for all the children who have been so callously denied their voices and emotional lives. And for creating this story, it really does convey in a visceral way the likely abusive endpoint of these policies, for at least some of the kids, and probably all of them to some extent or another. It made me cry--is that because I'm a softie "too" susceptible to having my heartstrings tugged?
Also inescapable that some parents were actively pushing for this level of safety-ism. The loudest voice carry the day at school board meetings, and those who ignorantly but honesty and truly believe that masks (and other precautions) are necessary to keep their child safe. Heard of a school board of five (very small community, obviously) in which four out of five knew the facts and knew what was appropriate. Here in NY, the mask mandate was for children two years old (2, TWO!) and the building I live in still enforces it (or tries to) with shaming and threats of fines and sadly, most people, including parents, comply. I express my outrage but too many of my fellow residents seem bemused as to why I think it's important. I still see parents heading off to and returning from school with their children masked, even though I think it's not required this year. History will not be kind to a society this narcissistic, this sadistic, and this willfully ignorant about the wellbeing of its children.
