Pfizer: "We're Helping to Mitigate Climate Change." They are absolutely correct.
Irony yet lives
A profound observation hit me this morning when I came across the following Pfizer tweet (curtesy of Naked Emperor’s news roundup):
Putting aside whether global warming is even happening, or the question of human influence on the global climate, this has got to be one of the greatest unintentional self-owns in history.
As Bill Gates famously explained (starting at 3:56), one of the four critical inputs that determine the amount of human carbon emissions is the # of People -- more people = more CO2 emitted.
Ergo, Pfizer has by virtue of its vaccine made the most significant contribution of any company in world history to reduce human CO2 emissions1:
Pfizer is unquestionably an evil company. But we can also pause for a second to appreciate that Pfizer has this one redeeming virtue uncommonly found in corporate America: Instead of the usual hypocritical doublespeak about protecting the climate, Pfizer actually put their money where their mouth is.
Well, the government’s money really, but still.
Excluding weapons manufacturers, but they don’t count because making weapons is their business, not a separate contribution towards enhancing global welfare.
I wrote this as a satire piece, to highlight the humorous objective fact that since Pfizer's vaccine has killed hundreds of thousands of people, and less people = less carbon emissions, voilà Pfizer has made a substantial contribution to carbon reduction.
